Our final meeting in advance of Monday's Daughters of the Protectorate luncheon was held yesterday and I must say I am pleased that this year's class continues to produce a number of qualified young witches. Congratulations to you all, ladies, and I look forward to your inclusion in this prestigious order.

June, I do hope we'll see you tomorrow, regardless of the decision of the committee. I've a young squire to accompany me and I'm rather anxious to show him off. He's nearly as tall as his father now!

Lana, dear, your concerns were noted but I'm sure you'll understand that they were outweighed by other voices.

Fergus, I'd no idea you were planning another installation in the Protector's Park. Of course I shall be delighted to attend. You know, it's probably past time we added to the Kensington pieces - I'd be interested in your opinion on the matter. I was thinking perhaps something for the interior. Sarah Yaxley's had some ideas and I do believe a collaboration might produce fascinating results.

Pandora's asked me to help find a suitable home for Ptolemy and Karoline once they return from their honeymoon; I was thinking of walking round Berkeley Square to see what might be open to let but this horrid weather has quite taken away my taste for it. One does find the rain much more enjoyable when one is indoors with a cup of strong tea.

There's one bright spot to the spring so far: The Summer Concert series has been announced. Toshenka, you'll be able to attend a number of the concerts, I trust? And Barty, I promise no fancy dress robes required: Picnic suppers under fairy lights, with twilight darkening all round the Protector's Park. I'll send you the guidebooks, shall I? It opens on the 3rd Saturday of June and runs through sometime in August.

Oh, and before I forget: June, dear, of course I'll be happy to assist with the DoP luncheon. Whatever could have given you the impression I was not interested? I did think I made it clear that Siobhan would provide adequate representation from the youngest generation of the Calderwood family, though, did I not? If you need further reasons, I suggest you make an appointment with me at the club. I think you already realise that Cassandra's hopes for induction are quite unrealistic, no matter what the outcome of her N.E.W.T. exams. Such a disappointment for you, I'm sure.

Aurora, are we meeting tomorrow? I had it down but thought I might have the date confused. Was that before or after your plans changed?

Ned, Lana: Do bring Sarah and her young man with you this Friday night. We'd love to see all of you. I promise you'll be able to get away from us stodgy old people before the pubs close.

Simonetta, I'm so glad you came to luncheon today. It was lovely to catch up. And I'm sure Monday will go splendidly. I'm pleased you thought to have me look over your remarks, truly. It's kind of you to ask my opinion.

Now, Diana, don't worry about Maghnus - he'll find his way. It's perfectly acceptable to take a few months to decide what he wants to do. Let him go hiking if he wishes to go hiking. I'm sure it shall be good for him in the long run. There's no rush.

As for me, I'm quite undecided about our family holiday. We hoped to take the boys to Snowdonia but that's impossible now. Perhaps Galloway or Keswick will be a better choice. After Freedom Day, of course, when they return from their CCF responsibilities.

Speaking of Freedom Day, Yvaine, I know you were asking and yes: I'm so glad you are interested in the committee. Of course, you were waiting to check with Charles and that's only right, now that he's the man of the family. We've a meeting on Wednesday so do come along to Nicola's studio and we may talk about what would be most effective.

Now that the Jr Auxiliary luncheon is over I can safely make plans for the rest of the week.

Aurora: I hope you received my owl? I'm sorry not to have replied immediately; we were simply inundated over the weekend. How would Wednesday suit you? There's a charming exhibit in the Maidstone, if you are interested in abstracts. Or if you prefer, we could take in the Larmer Tree Gardens (provided the weather chooses to cooperate, of course). I would also not say no to a simple tea at Katyenka or somewhere similar.

Do let me know. I've an appointment at 9 but otherwise I'm quite at your disposal.

Pandora: That is very interesting news, indeed. Saturday? Yes, I'm intrigued enough to go with you.

Hydra: How would you like to visit on Friday? We might go riding together; it's been ages since we went out.

Oh, and Malvasius, you'll have to do better in future, I'm afraid. You neglected to save me a dance at the Coopers' reception; if such behaviour continues I shall be forced to conclude I've lost my ability to captivate. Then again, who could hope to compete with Mrs Cooper's magnetism on her day of days?

Eudora, of course Amanda and I would be glad to entertain the Daughters after next month's meeting. We've discussed it and Amanda wishes to offer Mellerstain for the occasion. Will that satisfy? I'm simply dying to hear all about your exploration of the Lethifolds' summer roster. I hear they're trying to seduce Bull Pummel away from Wimbourne but I doubt they'll have any success. Still, it would be worth it to them, surely, to be able to boast the only completely pureblood professional side in the realm.
